Jinnah's Final Moments

Jinnah’s condition was serious he showed symptoms of mild pneumonia , and Doctors concluded that he must be shifted to Karachi. After about two hours' flying, Jinnah’s plane landed at Mauripur Airport at 4.15 in the afternoon. Here he had landed about a year ago, greeted by thousands, including cabinet ministers and members of the diplomatic corps. But that day, as instructed in advance, there was no one at the airport. Colonel Geoffrey Knowles, the Military Secretary of the Governor-General, was the first to receive Jinnah. The Quaid was carried on a stretcher to a military ambulance that had been kept ready to drive him to the Governor-General house. After covering about four miles, the ambulanced came to a halt. After about five minutes, Fatimah Jinnah and was told that it had run short of petrol. Jinnah laid there on the stretcher for nearly an hour .Then came another ambulance and Jinnah was carried to Governor General’s House. 2 hours it had taken to fly from Quetta to Karachi, and 2 hours from airport to Governor General’s house.
He was examined by the doctors and was allowed to rest. He was soon fast asleep.
He slept for about two hours, undisturbed. And then he opened his eyes, saw Fatimah Jinnah, and signalled with his head and eyes for her to come near him. He made one last attempt and whispered, and these were his last words :

"Fati, Khuda Hafiz. ...... La Ilaha Il Allah...... Mohammad...... Rasul...... Allah."
His head dropped slightly to his right, his eyes closed.
